A Russian expedition , visiting California in
1816 , discovered and named this native flower , the California Poppy (Eschsholzia California) in
honor of J. F. Eschscholtz the ship’s surgeon and nature lover .
A drought
tolerant annual flower, the California Poppy is often appreciated as a wildflower
and was designated the state flower in 1890.

Sow the seed in mid spring or late summer/
early autumn for germination in about 2-3 weeks. Well worth planting for its’ stunning
display of long-lasting sunset golden colors. One of our favorite flowers this
poppy is easy to grow and a very popular garden flower.
